House Rules Rejected Amendments

(Washington, DC) – The House Rules Committee, which controls amendments to legislation considered by the U.S. House of Representatives, has rejected on party line votes the following amendments offered by U.S. Congressman Dean Heller (R-NV).

June 18, 2009
Legislative Branch Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2010 (H.R. 2918)

Heller amendment to prevent an eight percent ($51 million) increase in the Members’ Representational Allowances (office budgets).  The amendment would keep the funding at FY2009 levels. 

June 23, 2009
Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2010 (H.R. 2892)

Heller/ Kingston amendment to require any entity contracting with the federal government to use E-Verify as a condition to receive federal funds. 

Heller amendment would extend the E-Verify program from two to three years in accordance with the Administration’s budget.

Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2010 (H.R. 2996)

Heller Amendment to decrease road decommissioning funds by $25 million to increase Bureau of Land Management funding by $25 million to combat the destruction of native sagebrush ecosystems and wildlife habitat caused by encroachment of pinyon-juniper, invasive weeds such as cheat grass, and invasive species.

July 8, 2009                                                                                                                                                                    State, Foreign Operations and Related Agencies appropriations for fiscal year 2010 (H.R. 3081)

Heller’s amendment would have removed $1.9 billion slated for international financial institutions.
