(Washington, DC) – Today the House Natural Resources Committee’s Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands held a hearing on Nellis Dunes National Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area Act (H.R. 765), introduced by U.S. Congressman Dean Heller (R-NV).
“Clark County faces unique challenges due to a large population encompassed by a vast amount federally controlled land. Under my bill, Clark County will be able to meet its goals to improve OHV recreation while protecting air quality and critical desert tortoise habitat. Clark County and the OHV community should be commended on their efforts to create this plan. Providing this much needed area for the OHV community will enhance recreational opportunities in southern Nevada and benefit Clark County residents for years to come,” said Heller.
The Nellis Dunes National Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area Act directs the BLM to manage, protect and designate approximately 9,200 acres of the Nellis Dunes area for open unrestricted riding and conveys approximately 1,150 acres of Nellis Dunes area to Clark County for its Parks and Recreation Department to develop race courses and support area for parking, rest rooms, and other commercial support services.
